Bjorth, the dark folk project led by German producer Björn Hoppen, combines Norse and Central European folklore with modern, cinematic soundscapes to create an immersive musical experience.
With a foundation built around mythological themes and stories, Bjorth features a core team of musicians, including Chilean singer/songwriter Daniela (Dani) Alvear as the female vocalist, and Meri Tadic (ex-Eluveitie), who joined in 2023 on violin to enhance the project’s evocative sound.
Bjorth’s debut release, “Drums of Midgard,” came out in 2020 before any collaborators joined him and has since gained remarkable popularity, amassing around 6 million combined streams across various platforms.
This initial track established the project’s atmospheric style, blending dark, cinematic elements that would shape Bjorth’s sound in the future.
In 2021, Bjorth collaborated with A Tergo Lupi to produce “Nornir,” a track inspired by Nordic fate and destiny as represented by the Norns in Norse mythology. This partnership not only led to the song but also fostered a lasting friendship between Bjorth and A Tergo Lupi. Fabio Del Carro from A Tergo Lupi later contributed a vocal sample to Bjorth’s track “Vidar.”
Among the key releases for the project, the “Midgard Rising” EP, launched in 2021, surpassed 1 million streams on Spotify, marking a significant milestone in its growing popularity.
Also in 2021, Bjorth collaborated with Mongolian artist Bukhchuluun Ganburged on the track “Khishigten.” Ganburged, renowned for his expertise in Mongolian throat singing and traditional instruments, added a unique cultural richness to the project. He has gained international recognition, notably for his captivating performances on The Voice Australia, where he showcased his mastery of Mongolian folk music.
In addition to several single releases, Bjorth launched the “Annarr” EP in 2022. This EP included “Valkyrjur,” one of Bjorth’s most popular tracks, which has garnered over 1.5 million streams on Spotify.
Bjorth’s journey has been enhanced by collaborations with various artists who are equally passionate about mythological and dark folk themes.
Notable partnerships include those with Aethyrien (2023), Foresaga (2021/22), Pawl.D Beats (2023), Munknörr (2024), Noiduin (2022), Sagason (2022/23), and KVELD (2024).
